Living In A Material World

You scored as Materialist. Materialism stresses the essence of fundamental particles. Everything that exists is purely physical matter and there is no special force that holds life together. You believe that anything can be explained by breaking it up into its pieces. i.e. the big picture can be understood by its smaller elements.

The problem with this quiz is that I hedged my bets for virtually all the questions, and still it decided I am a materialist. And yet my second highest score was as a cultural creative, "a modern thinker who tends to shy away from organized religion but still feels as if there is something greater than ourselves. You are very spiritual, even if you are not religious. Life has a meaning outside of the rational." It reminds me of the time that I split my vote between the socialist and libertarian parties: I agree with aspects of both of their platforms, even though they would presumably be mutually exclusive.

This, then, would suggest why exactly I am an agnostic. It's not that I can't make a decision of what to believe. I do have definite opinions about the existence of god: I just happen to hold two opposed opinions. They hold each other in equilibrium, and keep me from committing one way or another. Although when you tell people this, they immediately assume you're just an atheist with commitment issues.

I do like that "atomic" art that accompanies my description.

Via.

One thing I do have an opinion on: I do not like Bob Dylan. I have been told all my life that he's a great artist, an American Original, the voice of a generation. It's just that every time I hear that voice, I have to turn off the radio. I actually like some of his songs, just not when he performs them. So tonight, in honor of Dylan's birthday, I will listen to Bryan Ferry's fantastic version of "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue", and wonder why I don't get the Dylan Thing.*

*I also don't get the Sinatra Thing, the Johnny Cash Thing, or the Elvis Thing. Please don't think less of me: I tried, believe me!
