I haven't posted much lately, although it has seemed like I was very, very busy. No explanation.
We've been doing a lot of service projects, collecting toys for the disadvantaged and doing Habitat for Humanity and all that. I sort of like the service projects, because afterwards you know that you accomplished something. As opposed to my work at the site, where the improvement in my students is so gradual that it sometimes makes me wonder if there is any improvement at all. I think there is, but am never wholly sure.
I broke our washing machine last week by overloading it, so now I have to do my laundry at the neighbors' house, and then run back here and throw it into the dryer. I'm going to submit a service report tomorrow in the office.
For some reason, I've become obsessed with the musicals of Stephen Sondheim. Partly, I think, because the CDs of musicals are the easiest to come by at the local library. I've been able to check out the original Broadway soundtracks of "Spamalot", "Hairspray", and "The Producers", among others. So I've been reading Sondheim & Co. by Craig Zadan, and listening to "Company" and "Anyone Can Whistle", and watching the video of "Into the Woods". That shit is off the hook! I think it might be a reaction to all the hip-hop I've been subjected to since I moved down here.
Next Wednesday I leave for home, driving with my father, who is in Tampa. Huzzah, huzzah. He can look forward to twenty hours of show tunes, if I have anything to say about it! (And I should: we are driving my car!)
