Far Out

Watching A Boy Named Charlie Brown for the first time: was this intended as a head film? Seriously, the musical portions really cry out for some mind-expanding psychedelics.

Plus, there's that "Linus-is-jonesing-for-his-blanket" sub-plot.

EDIT: Christ, if it was a head movie, those had to be some depressed hippies at the finish. The thing about Peanuts (the comic strip) is that it frequently used Charlie Brown's failure as a punchline, but in the cartoons, specifically this cartoon, they linger afterward, so that you could see how it affects him. And that isn't pretty. So, say, in this movie, Charlie gets so depressed that he won't get out of bed. And then the ending fakes you out, thinking that he'll finally succeed at something, but even that is an illusion. I'm not the first to point this out, but this is pretty deep shit for "children's entertainment".
