Viva Anna Espinosa!!

It was a busy, busy weekend. Yesterday, I assisted with teaching 40 7th graders the rudiments of PowerPoint. They were still better behaved than the undergrads I've helped instruct. Next week, Veronica is going to the MLA conference, so I will be spending my time sorting through the gift books. *shiver*

Today, I went with Julie, Mike & Michelle to see "Team America: World Police". It was good, and it was funny, but it sort of wasn't as funny as I was hoping it would be. It was more a satire on these blockbuster movies, rather than a political satire. As such, there were a lot of spots that were only funny because it was puppets. The absolute funniest parts were the parts that were most consciously self-referntial, like the montage sequence of the hero in training, with the montage theme pointing out exactly what the montage is supposed to accomplish, i.e., that the scenes we're seeing are intrinsically boring, and that the uptempo theme to the montage keeps it from being boring, while also indicating the passage of time. Also, the musical "Lease", with it's catchy theme "Everyone has AIDS", was a show-stopper. Not as good as "Shaun of the Dead", or "The Bat", actually, but pretty good.

I have some revisions of my story written; I'll see soon if they actually work. (I write everything in long hand, and then transcribe to the computer as my first level of editing. Call me old fashioned; at least I know what I like!)

There is a new promo ad running for Sealab 2021 in Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. It features the characters of Debbie and Marco lipsyncing (rather well, considering the general quality of the show) to Antonio Carlos Jobim and Elis Regina's "Aguas de Marco", one of my favorite songs, like, ever. It really is a beautiful song. The show tends on occasion to be more obnoxious than funny, but it certainly goes up a couple degrees in my estimation.

Quote of the day: "Here's one of me at Danceteria making out with Stiv Bators and Lydia Lunch!"

Song: Green Day, "American Idiot".
