Benedict XVI

Finally, we have a pope! And the stream of anti-Catholic invectives can spew forth from me like lava from an angry volcano, you papist swine, puppets of the Vatican! (He is older than John Paul II was, as I had hypothesized he would be.) I was hoping that he would be named Innocent, because all the popes named Innocent always seemed really corrupt. Plus, I remember as a kid seeing an encyclopedia entry for Innocent X, and thinking the X was his last name, just like Malcolm X. Since then I've had a fondness for the name.

In other Catholic news, my dad got through the surgery fine, and is currently recovering. When he gets a little better, I'll start insulting Catholics around him, just to let him know I care.

Glad to hear your Pop/Dad/Father (depending on your region)is doing well!

Yes, a new pope. It was, uhm, pope-a-modem, at work today when the smoke (is it black? is it white?) drama started. People were on edge, till some woman starting yelling, "they're ringing the bells!" Uh, okay.....

The best part of the day was when this, shall we say 'slow', co-worker asked how they pick the new Pope's name. "Is it the same way as when they pick the name for a hurricane?"

Uh, yeah. Sure. Works for me.

I like the idea of naming popes the same way they pick Hurricanes. Then they could retire names if the pope is extremely awful.
