Checking In, Checking Out

Not much going on this week. Work is slow. Life is dull. Blah blah blah. No more parental surgeries to report, which is always a good thing.

I did watch Sideways with Julie, Mike, and the Kids last weekend. I am pleased to report that it was every bit as bad as I had expected. My fear was that after all my bitching about the movie, that when I got around to seeing it, I would fall in love with it. Instead, by the end of the movie, I was shrieking at the television, blithering something about having it up to here [indicate the top of my head] with overindulgent baby-boomer navel-gazing bullshit. (My mom was really upset that I didn't like it. She said that I'm a snob, and very closed-minded when it comes to movies. Which might be true, but I learned it from watching her.) Boo hoo, I have a steady job teaching eighth grade English -- a class that was almost preternaturally well-behaved, by the way: did these people ever actually attend an eighth grade English class? -- but I really want to write, boo hoo! Boo hoo, my wife left me, boo hoo! If I could stand drinking wine, I would now be a convert to malt liquor. Thankfully, everyone else (with the possible exception of Julie) hated it too, although Mike insisted Dogville was worse. I liked Dogville better, because I liked the staging of it, but I bit my tongue. No need to make waves.

I assume that I will be gone for the rest of the week: I have the interview tomorrow, and then I will be going to Monticello for the weekend, instead of coming back here. I assume that I will not have wireless internet access at the hotel, so everyone have a good week. And wish me luck. You know, if you want to.

(Oh, and the tire cost $352.20. Ugh.)
