Howdy! I am now relatively ensconced in Florida, and already starting my orientation. The internet terminals at the apartment office are always busy, so I'm at the local library, and only have 18 minutes left on this computer. 17 minutes now. So I'll make it quick.
I like most of the people in the AmeriCorps program, and more to the point, they all seem to like me. Or, at any rate, they all laugh at my jokes (or maybe just at me), which, as they say, is close enough for government work.
The roommate that I'm actually living with right now is from Fort Myers, and was actually hired after I was last week. He seems nice enough, willing to let me drink his beer in moderation, and willing to carpool to orientation. The other roommate is a bit OCD, and he's only moving in today. I hope it works out.
He's actually taking the juvenille offenders gig that I had been told to look forward to, and I have to say that I feel some relief at that. I will apparently be working in a Catholic ESL program, along with another AmeriCorps worker.
We went to the bar last night, and I drank more than usual, but feel fine today. Somebody kept trying to make me drink a beer that tasted like olives, I swear. It was awful: those are two great tastes that do not go great together.
My fully-furnished, luxury apartment was neither. Apparently "fully-furnished" means no dishes, cookware, or light-sources in any of the bedrooms; the personal effects that the brochure said was all we needed to bring included shower curtains.
That's all for now; I'll check in some time when I have more time to devote to this. Hope everyone is doing well, and take care!

You know, I was in an AmeriCorps program years ago ... though not nearly one so hard core as you seem to have fallen into. All in all, it was a good experience ... well worth the effort, or lack thereof (as I'm not really big on that whole effort thing).
Just know that I am among those thinking of you and wishing you well on your journey. Good luck in this new life.
I'm not a big one for effort myself. It should prove interesting. Thanks for the well-wishes!
hopefully "ocd boy" won't discover your blog and find out you're calling him "ocd boy."
that could be bad.
I mean, if he really does have ocd, he'll be like checking this blog a 1000 times a day to see if you're talking about him.
Which is why I'm not naming names. Or places.
Dude. Run. Hurricane!

Michelle! I thought you had gone AWOL girl! When I get more time, I'll be sure to head over to your site; hopefully you'll have more comics involving were-rabbits!
