My Pal Foot Foot

In Spin, they have an article about a musical based on The Shaggs. That is the best thing I've heard all month! For those of you who have never had the pleasure of hearing these three extraordinary girls' (womens', now) music, go here. For a brief explanation of what you're hearing, go here. According to www.theshaggsonline.com, there is going to be a Shaggs movie. I'll just settle for seeing the musical.

Also in Spin, other than the Pixies article that does not reassure me that the reunion is going to last for any length of time, is a bit about the Hot Hot Heat. Apparently they've "moved beyond" the music of their first album. What, they learned a fourth chord? It was hardly Stravinsky to begin with. Everytime I hear a band I like has "evolved artistically", I am inevitably disappointed by the results. Not that I'm averse to artistic evolution; rather, what I have a problem with are bands feeling the need to tell everyone how much they've evolved. It usually amounts to a whole lot of hot air. I dunno; I'll try to keep an open mind, but I sure ain't gonna rush out and buy it.

On second thought, I think I'll just listen to The Shaggs. Pretension free music for the unblemished mind.
