Various/Sundry

The Doom Patrol trade paperback (The Painting that Ate Paris) has apparently not been released today, as was scheduled, so I am trying to keep myself amused until the work gets here.

Have you heard that Cat "Peace Train" Stevens has not been allowed to enter the United States, due to potential terrorist ties? David Gordon, the singer's brother and manager, claims that "He [Mr. Stevens] just wants to be an ambassador for peace." Like between the Ayatollah Khomeini and Salman Rushdie? From Wikipedia:

Rather than go to a demonstration where Rushdie would
be burned in effigy, "I would have hoped that it'd be the
real thing" [Cat Stevens] said. If Rushdie showed up at his door, he
said he "might ring somebody who might do more damage
to him than he would like... I'd try to phone the Ayatollah
Khomeini and tell him exactly where this man is."

Everyone jump upon the peace train, indeed. Anyway, I think all the reason we need to keep him out is that crappy music.

Speaking of vomit, check out the CDC Disease Trading Cards. I like set 1 well enough, but set 2 depresses me; it shows people who actually have the diseases on the cards, and my empathy chip switches on. (Via Nichole, via datacloud, via Cruel Site of the Day.) Nichole also has a link to stuffed microbes, which I think are absolutely fantastic. I especially like Rhinovirus and Shigella. They're so cute! I know what I want for my birthday.

OMIGOD! They have the Black Death plush "animal"! Now if only they had the Red Death... I also like that they have the HIV virus wearing a red ribbon, and the Flesh-eating bacteria is holding a knife and fork. These make me wish I did have kids! (Probably a good thing I don't, though.)

Tonight Julie and I are going over Jolie's house to watch Gilmore Girls; turns out we all scheduled poorly and have classes on Tuesday. That means I won't be able to watch Lost, but I'm taping it. We'll see if it's as good as they say, what with a Hobbit, an evil lawyer, an assistant director for the FBI, and that cute "Party of Five" guy. And the Professor and Mary Anne.

Song: Kylie Minogue, "Butterfly."
