Is there anything Natalie Portman is not in?
All in all, the evening went OK. Better than most New Year's Eves -- I didn't crash someone else's car, I didn't have the flu, and nobody died, all of which have happened on this holiday in the past. I liked when Jolie and Seth got there, just because when it's just Julie, Mike, Michelle, and I, I feel sort of, I dunno, lonesome. Certainly left out. Which is not a good thing to be feeling when you're hanging out with your friends. The fact that the mudslide mix I had bought was apparently of the large curd variety did nothing to improve my night. Can mudslide mix go bad? So I was, as usual, much too sober. The problem is, I like being sober when I'm over their house so that I can leave if they decide to watch a movie like The Ladies Man.
ERRATUM: Jeff pointed out that the movie I was calling Sunshine State (which is a John Sayles film featuring Carmela Soprano and Riley Finn as lovers, a movie that I seem to recall being well disposed to) is, in fact, Garden State. In my defense, I fell asleep sometime after 5AM, and shouldn't be allowed near a computer in this condition. I don't know why I thought New Jersey would be "The Sunshine State" -- I guess I assumed that the good people of New Jersey had a keener sense of irony than I had heretofore been led to believe. I have made the appropriate corrections.

Perhaps we can lobby LSSU to banish Natalie Portman and Jude Law? ;-)
I heard raves about Mr. Braff's film, but now i'm not so sure if i should bother. Hmmmm.
Glad to hear your New Years was uneventful. Sometimes, that's exactly what one needs--no drama!
cheers! happy 2005!

I would watch it if I were you. It may turn out that I have absolutely no taste whatsoever (stranger things happen), or that the fact that I was watching it in the company of drunk loudmouths affected my opinion. It wasn't a movie that I would warn people NOT to see, like *shiver* The Ladies Man.
I read The Stranger, but the only thing I can remember is that an Arab is killed, and I only remember that because of the Cure song. Perhaps I should re-read it.
And I don't really have anything against Jude Law (although I think his hotness is severely overstated) or Natalie Portman (of which I would say the same, if I gave a damn). They seem to be reasonably good actors. There's just too much product out there by them. Maybe if we limit them to a movie a season? I think that's reasonable.
