My boss informed me that he has received a request for a letter of reference from one of the universities I applied to; I'm not even sure which one, because I haven't asked, lest it seem like I'm being too pushy. Now, what I'm curious is about is: I started sending out applications in early November, but it seems like I'm only starting to get any sort of response from these places. Is it just because the number of resumes I'm sending out per week has so increased? For instance, so far this week I have sent out 21 resumes, and I plan to send more out tonight.

One problem I always have with interviews is that by the time the interview is over and they ask me if I have any questions, I'm so frazzled and spacy that I can never think of any. My mom gave me a couple of suggestions, basically asking about housing in the area and about the retirement plans, but does anybody else have any suggestions?

In other news, my parents closed on the house last night, and they will be moving in at the end of July. So thats one less thing they have to be concerned about.

Bill,

I suspect part of the reason you're getting responses to resumes sent in November is due to 1-the glacial speed most academic institutions move at when hiring and 2-most academic institutions run on June fiscal years, so alot of places may have only recently found out that they will have money in the budget to hire people, and are just now calling people in their resume file.

I say this after having seen the process at 2 different universities (one of which was a university library system).

Good luck in the job hunt. Have fun at ALA...if you run into any Univ of Kentucky people, say hi for me :) It'll totally freak them out.

Even before I started applying, I was warned by librarians that academic libraries could take as long as six months to work through the hiring process, and that I should expect a very long ordeal. Weird thing is, the two academic libraries that have made contact were libraries I applied to in late May. Go figure.

I really should have been applying to public libraries all along, but for a long time I was only applying to academic, because that is pretty much what I studied for in school. If I hadn't have been so pig-headed, I might have been hired by now!
