I've finally recovered from the flu that struck me down last week with a fever and a cough that made me sound like I had been smoking two packs a day for 50 years. It snuck up on me quickly, and has been tearing through the ranks of AmeriCorps ever since. We think that I got it when we went to a latino club, because the girl I was dancing with, Daron, ended up getting sick at the same time I did, and so did some other folks who were there. The only remnant of my illness is that I still start coughing everytime I laugh. And I laugh a lot.
I finally have a profile on the Palm Beach County Literacy Coalition website; you can read it here. In spite of the third person narrator, I wrote it myself, and was actually pretty pleased by it: I think it's an accurate representation of myself. A list of the other service members (with links to their profiles) is available here; the Literati newsletter that is published by some of the other service members is available here, as a pdf file. It will give you, my faceless reader, a better idea of the people that I am currently fratrenizing with. And finally, in the name of completeness, the website for the place that I am working at is available here, for those who are curious.
Brian/Bryan/"Roommate" (I'm unsure of the spelling of his first name; we are trying to wean the AmeriCorps members off of referring to him as "Roommate") surprised us all last night by making us a big batch of California Rolls for when we got home from work, which was very nice of him. Other than the weak wasabi, my only complaint was that I did not have chopsticks to eat them with; using my fingers just seems so wrong!
Jolie should have had her baby by now, and Julie has quit her job at the elementary school.
We are currently trying to do our quarterly reports for work, and preparing for when we move to a new building in March. My AmeriCorps supervisor arranged for me to either shadow or do work at the site at the Library Annex, which is a good thing.
